About Us

History

We began as a church plant in 2004.  Four families joined with my wife and I as the core group sent out from a Non denomination Pentecostal church in the Bronx. Four families (Godfrey, Wallace, Wright and Hemingway) were also commission to join with Rev Jenkins and Sis Jenkins as the first members of this new church.  Our first service was held on Sunday, January 25, 2004 at 306 New Main Street, Yonkers New York. Beverley Grayson transferred her membership to the new church that put our membership at that time at 13 with 18 individuals in attendance.  The parent organization’s North American structure was dissolved and we joined the United Brethren In Christ USA Denomination in 2006 and our name was change to the current name.  Our group is made up of individuals from different nationalities that were associated with various denominations including Baptist, Pentecostal, United Brethren In Christ and Missionary backgrounds.   Over the years we have had several families that have migrated and several others that have joined our church family.  We relocated to 945 Yonkers Ave, Yonkers NY, our current location, in 2009.

Today our church has seen an increase in growth with average attendance at 45 and a population of about 80.  Bethel Temple of Praise is a member of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ USA Denomination.  Bethel, an eight years old church plant, offers a unique opportunity for global/urban ministry. Located in Yonkers, New York, it is only a 30 minutes train ride from Grand Central Terminal, NYC.  The church is much needed in this multicultural, multi-ethnic populated environment where there are over one hundred thousand different cultures.
